About me

If you’ve finally arrived here, you probably want to know who Celia Alba is. I have a PhD in linguistics, a speech therapist, and a science communicator. I work at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, where I assist people who, due to brain damage or complex laryngeal pathologies, have difficulty understanding or expressing themselves. It’s a demanding job, but also a deeply transcendental one, which challenges and teaches me every day.

Before landing at the hospital, I spent several years researching and teaching at the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University. I spent a season working in San Diego, California, in the Laboratory for Language and Cognitive Neuroscience, at San Diego State University. I also spent a shorter period at the Universidad Milano-Bicocca. My time at universities in several countries has provided me with other perspectives on language and has taught me to work in very diverse teams.

After completing my PhD, I specialized in scientific outreach. I founded a content company called InMedulla Continguts and began working on museum projects. One of them was Talking Brains, an exhibition about human language from the brain’s perspective, which I conceived with three colleagues and developed with a great team for CosmoCaixa in Barcelona. The exhibition ran for a year at the museum and has since continued to tour other museums.

My vocation for communication is still very much alive: I’ve written several books, I collaborate on events for the general public, and I created the Logonautes podcast, where I talk about language, the brain, and communication.

In parallel to my clinical work, I remain involved in research and teaching. I currently also work for the UNED (National University of Education) and the University of Cantabria (Gimbernat University Schools), and I actively participate in scientific publications, conferences, and specialized training. You can see some of my publications here.

If you think we could collaborate or you’d just like to know more, don’t hesitate to write to me. Here are the links to my professional profiles: Linkedin, ORCID, ResearchGate, Google Scholar. If you’d like to receive my full CV, I’d be happy to send it to you.
